Boston Town Juniors achieve FA Charter Standard
On the 15th May 2009, Boston Town Juniors were presented with their FA Charter Standard Award at their annual presentation evening. The presentation took place twice as the club wanted not only the person who had put in all the effort in gaining the award but surprised a long serving member of the club to also receive the award. Both presentations were done by Reg Jackson (Lincolnshire Representative on the FA Council) and Paul Hamnett (Football Development Officer) who were both very pleased and delighted to present the award on behalf of the Lincolnshire CFA.
The first presentation was presented to Darren Bevan (Child Welfare Officer and Head of Youth) with the majority of the Youth section involved in the photograph. The second presentation of the award which Darren got the longest serving youth player at the club, was a complete surprise to the player and was well received by all in attendance and a nice compliment to pay to a player who has played at one club during his time in the youth section.
As the presentation of the FA Charter Standard was made at the clubs annual awards evening, both Reg and Paul were invited to stay by the club and observe the awards and get involved in the evenings festivities of which both Reg and Paul were made to feel very welcome by the club and ensured that they went away with positive thoughts of the club.
Paul Hamnett commented that “the club has been going through this process for over a year and was a great achievement for the club” furthermore he goes on to say that “the club made us feel very welcome and we took advantage of the great hospitality and I look forward to working with the club in the future”
Boston Town Juniors are looking to fully engage with the FA Charter Standard and also to progress through the different stages which shows their commitment and ambition.
FA Charter Standard In-Service Training – Shooting and Crossing Drills
The second event on the FA Charter Standard Clubs In service Training took place on the 30th and 31st March at Wyberton and Louth respectively. This event gave the coaches who attended a chance to learn a more about Shooting and Crossing Drills.
The first of the two evening took place at the home of Wyberton FC in Boston where Craig Gosling and Ray Power from Boston United FC came down and delivered the session. The session was attended by over 25 coaches from a variety of different clubs from across South Lincolnshire who saw Ray and Craig deliver a comprehensive session to Wyberton’s U14’s team.
The second evening took place at the new Pavilion on London Road in Louth. This session saw Dave Collins, Lincolnshire CFA Tutor and Grimsby Centre of Excellence Coach deliver to a number of coaches from across North Lincolnshire. The participants that were used in the session were provided by Louth Old Boys who thoroughly enjoyed the session.
Both sessions took a very similar path by both workshops looking at the individual sections of the workshop and then combining them to show how they each affect one another. Furthermore the sessions also gave the club coaches the chance to ask questions and gain some valuable advice from the coaches who delivered the sessions and hope that the clubs who attended will benefit greatly from the workshop.
We would like to thank both Wyberton and Louth Old Boys for providing the participants for the evening and the coaches who came to the sessions. Furthermore I would like to say thank you to the three coaches who delivered the sessions as all the feedback was very positive.
The FA Charter Standard In-Service Training programme is a series of event / workshops provided by the Lincolnshire CFA as part of the FA Charter Standard Award. The in-service training programme allows the charter standard clubs to access CPD opportunities for their coaches and administrators free of charge in order to develop the club. The Lincolnshire CFA are dedicated to delivering four events for club members to access. This year we have been able to provide the same session twice, one in the north and one in the south of the Lincolnshire which will actually create eight sessions for coaches to be involved.
The first FA Charter Standard In-Service Training event has taken place with over 60 coaches taking part in the two sessions. The first session took place on January 19th at Sleaford Carre’s Grammar School and the second session took place at Bottesford Town FC in Scunthorpe on the 23rd February 2009. The topic that was delivered was a Goalkeeper Taster Workshop with Leanne Hall (England International) delivering the session. The sessions saw Leanne deliver the basics of goalkeeping and provide the coaches with knowledge of how to also get the goalkeeper involved more during a coaching session and getting away from them just being another person in the drill. Paul Hamnett (Football Development Officer) commented that “it was good to see so many coaches from a variety of clubs attend the session plus coaches of varying ages and gender”. Also he noted that “the in-service programme is a fantastic opportunity for all charter standard clubs to up skill their coaches and ultimately give their players a greater chance to improve their skills”.
The coaches who attended the sessions found the information provided very worthwhile and feel more equipped to help goalkeepers at their clubs so they do not get left out and they can further their goalkeeping skills. Further sessions will be provided in the near future where it is hoped that a similar number of coaches will attend and experience the in-service training programme.
