Lincolnshire County Women League Final

Lincoln Mooreland Railway Ladies V Nettleham Ladies FC

On the 29th April 2009, Gainsborough Trinity FC hosted the Lincolnshire County Women League final between Lincoln Mooreland Railway V Nettleham Ladies.

The game started with high tempo football being played from both opponents, early shots on target from both sides lead to the game being end to end action and both keepers being tested.
A early lead for Nettleham ladies from Leanne Keen gave an immediate boost to players, however the strength of the Lincoln Mooreland’s railway attacking forwards didn’t allow for the lead to last long, Mel Stamp equalized. Lincoln Mooreland Railway applied a lot of pressure to Nettleham goal, which led to some shot stopping responses from Nettleham keeper Waranya Kanachanaruk

Second half, started with Lincoln Mooreland Railway having much of the possession and putting pressure on Nettleham defence however this half was plagued with contested tackles which led to the game having reduced flow.
Deep into the second half, Nettleham attacking forwards were through on goal when the keeper tried to deny entry into the Lincoln Mooreland’s Railway box, unfortunately Laurie Gilliat efforts were mistimed and handled the ball out of the area and received a red card.

Jess Maclean stepped up to take the number one place in goal and saved the direct free kick, the game ended with Nettleham claiming the league cup. The game was well contested and congratulations to both teams for getting to the final. Thanks to the referee and linesmen for there professionalism and sprits on the evening
Special thanks to Gainsborough Trinity for the use of the ground and the supporters league trust for the buffet, Stacey Lyner for collecting monies on the gate and finally to Grahame Lyner for his organisation of the final.
