Lincolnshire Female Mentoring Program was set up in January 2008 to increase the active number of female coaches in Lincolnshire. 25 female coaches are benefiting from the year intensive course which is being delivered by special guests from the national coaching scene.
The Launch Night involved female coaches from all around the county and the first session date will be on the 19th April 2008 and special guests will be on hand to support the ladies through the day. The day will comprise of some special guests, practical coaching and some theory based sessions
The Mentoring program is aiming to increase knowledge and confidence of active coaches and to give these coaches ongoing support. From this we hope that the coaches will develop as effective coaches working with their players and reach their potential.
In March 2007 there was 11,355 qualified female coaches in England and broken down as:-
• 10,591 level 1
• 670 Level 2
• 64 Level 3
• 9 Level 4
• 1 UEFA Pro license.
At a national level the FA National Mentoring program has over 60 female coaches registered of which 4 have already achieved the prestigious UEFA A Licence, 20 the Level 3 award and 10 level 2 award.
There are 9 female coaches on the elite/ high performance programme of which 8 have achieved or are currently undertaking the UEFA A licence.
This initiative was started in 2001 by National Coach Hope Powell OBE. This was designed to support female’s coaches to gain coaching qualifications and improve their coaching. Since this inception the scheme has supported literally hundreds of female coaches in their quest to achieve FA coaching qualifications. 4 great examples of this initiative are Mo Marley and Julie Chipchase who passed their A licence in 2003 and Lois Fidler in 2004.
This scheme is unique and the first of its kind in the country and offers help and support to female coaches so that each individual can achieve their true potential. The event took place on Saturday 19th April 2008 between 10:30 to 4:30 at Dayncourt Sports College Radcliffe on Trent Nottingham.
The aim is to increase the number of active coaches in the East Midlands
(Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire.) 54 coaches of the future participated in the day long event lead by Paul Smalley the East midlands regional coach development manager who was assisted by Luis Fiddler England’s Under 17 coach,

Gemma Grainger FA Skills Coach.
The participants day consisted of an introduction to the scheme followed by an in depth coach planning workshop, followed by an afternoon of practical demonstrations by the guest coaches. Over lunch the coaches had the opportunity to meet KATIE HOLTHAM Leeds Utd and England who signed autographs and spoke about the goal she scored in last season’s FA Women’s Cup Final Finally all the coaches completed a personal action plan which will be the basis of future events
