The review into 'Youth Football' is part of wider developments that encompass the Elite Player Performance Plan, a Coaching Strategy and International Team Development.
The idea around the elements identified is to create a 'Whole Game Vision' which builds upon the literature from the 'Future Game Resources'. It is then hoped that we as a nation start to produce environments and players that compete with other successful football nations.
For the Youth Review, it concentrated on 4 key areas:
• Formats of the Game
• Flexible Competition
• Affecting the Birth Bias
• Development of Mini Soccer
This information was taken around the country and involved people from all areas of football including players and the following information outlines what was put forward and research surrounding it.
The Key outcomes from the work are as follows:
• Execute clear and structured guidelines on the maximum number of players per team for youth football.
• Implement a development process for playing up at all age. groups supported by rules, to grow and retain participation.
• Defined role for CFA’s to support transition to develop better players.
• Guidelines for competition structures for U7-U11 age groups.
• Prohibit 8 month long seasons for U7 to U11 children.
• Increase participation by retaining more summer born children.
