The very first sanctioned competition was the Lincolnshire Challenge Cup in 1881/82 season which was won by Spilsby Town. One of the first leagues to affiliate to the Lincolnshire FA in 1903 was the Gainsborough & District Football League who is still operating today. This shows that leagues have a lot of staying power and can survive World Wars to deliver football to the local communities.
The Lincolnshire FA understands how important the league structure is within football as leagues provide a great platform to communicate to clubs and drive initiatives in order to grow, retain and drive up standards in football. League development is a key driver to the Lincolnshire FA County Plan and throughout the period of this plan, 4 years, we aim to develop relationships and work together to benefit the clubs of the affiliated leagues.
The Lincolnshire FA will support all leagues looking to move forward either through FA Charter Standard League Programme or generic league development. SO if your league is interested in moving forward then please contact Paul Hamnett on 08449 67 07 08 (option 2) or firstname.lastname@example.org
