Lincolnshire's Rising Star, Iona Lawson

The Rising Star of the Year award aims to recognise the individuals who make a real contribution in the football community

IONA LAWSON HAS BEEN NAMED RISING STAR OF THE YEAR IN LINCOLNSHIRE FA’S 2020 GRASSROOTS FOOTBALL AWARDS

Applicable for those aged 25 or under, the Rising Star of the Year award aims to recognise the individuals who make a real contribution in the football community, acting with responsibility, encouragement and support; and being a role model to others.

Shortlisted alongside Tom Ford of Gonerby Youth FC, Lowlands JFC’s Iona Lawson was named winner and here is what she had to say:

“I was pretty shocked when I saw I won this award! This season has been so fun and to win the Rising Star award adds to the already brilliant (though slightly shortened) season and I have loved every minute.

“I have played pretty much all of my football for about 12 years in the county, and now I have also stepped into coaching and I can’t wait to be involved in growing the women’s and girls’ game even more in Lincolnshire over the next few years.

“Setting up our U11 Lionesses team at Lowlands last summer was a huge jump for me, but the enthusiasm and eagerness from all of the girls as well as the huge amount of support from everyone at Lowlands and Lincs FA in general has made the journey so far really enjoyable and rewarding and I have learnt loads in such a small amount of time. I really can’t wait for the coming season and to be involved with grassroots football in Lincolnshire as much as I can!”

On behalf of everyone at Lincolnshire FA, we’d like to say a huge well done to Iona for winning this award and to everyone else who received a nomination. Thank you for everything you do!
