FANTASTIC TURNOUT AT LINCOLN WALKING FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
Lincolnshire FA was delighted to see over 100 players across nine clubs come together to compete in a Walking Football Tournament at Birchwood Leisure Centre in Lincoln on Sunday 24 November.
Following on from the Bobby Moore Walking Football Tournament in the summer, the 5v5 festival saw four teams play each other twice in the Over 50 category, whilst nine different teams entered the Over 60 category and played each other once in a round-robin festival.
Fixtures were played on the brand-new football turf pitch at Birchwood Leisure Centre and were 12 minutes straight through, with teams having a six-minute turnaround in between each game. The festival attracted over 100 participants and the whole day was played in fantastic spirit, supported by three excellent officials.
Jake Park, Lincolnshire FA Football Development Officer (Male Pathway), said: “It was a really positive day for walking football within the county. Lincolnshire FA were really keen to bring our walking football community back together for a day of football using a slightly more relaxed ‘round-robin’ format.
“To have nine affiliated walking football clubs present on the day (four of which entered teams across both age groups) was really, really pleasing and the feedback we have received since the event has been extremely positive. Thank you to ‘Active Nation – Birchwood’ for allowing Lincolnshire FA to use their state-of-the-art facilities.”
