Lincolnshire Football Association is delighted to announce the introduction of BRAND-NEW dementia friendly walking football sessions for those living with dementia in Lincolnshire. The project is a joint initiative between Lincolnshire FA, Lincoln City Foundation & Carers First.  

The first session will be a FREE taster session for participants, and will take place between 1-2pm on Tuesday 27th June 2023 at Lincoln City.

The sessions are mixed gender, and the weekly cost, after the first session, is £3. The sessions will be overseen by a DBS compliant coach who has completed the Dementia Friends training to ensure the environment will be fun, safe and dementia friendly. The weekly sessions will be tailored to the needs and wants of the group, but will include gentle warm-up exercises, followed by fun football related games at walking pace. 

No previous experience of playing football is required. We aim to create an inclusive and social environment which accommodates everyone. We have consulted with key organisations working within this area of health to ensure all necessary considerations are taken to ensure a safe environment.   

The social aspect of this project is hugely important so whilst the participants are enjoying the walking football on the 3G pitch, carers will have access to an indoor space where they will be able to socialise and enjoy tea, coffee and cake. Parking is available on site.

Lincolnshire FA Football Development Manager, Jake Park, said: "We have created this opportunity to harness everything that is great about walking football and made it accessible for those living with dementia. Working with partners such as Lincoln City Foundation, Carers First & Age UK, we have hopefully created an opportunity that could have real life changing impact. The staff facilitating the sessions are Dementia Friends and will create a safe, enjoyable & dementia friendly environment for everyone involved."
