PREVIEW: Under-12 and Under-14 Cup Finals

An encapsulating finals season in Lincolnshire comes to a conclusion on Saturday 11 May, as Lincoln United host the Lincolnshire FA Under-12s and Under-14s Cup Finals.

Grantham Town FC Academy and Ruston Sports compete for the 2019 Lincolnshire FA Under-14s Cup, whilst Bottesford Town FC U12 VW go up against Gonerby Youth U12 Yellow for the Under-12s Cup.

The two games, hosted at Lincoln United’s Ashby Avenue, begin at 11am with the U14s final, before the U12s final gets underway at the slightly later time of 2:30pm.

All of the teams involved have enjoyed excellent runs in their respective competitions to book their ticket to the final. Given a bye through to the second-round, Grantham Town got off to an emphatic start with a 5-1 victory over Cleethorpes Town JFC Pattersons U-14s. They then followed that up with a 14-0 thumping of Appleby Frodingham JFC U-13s. Their excellent goalscoring form continued with a 6-0 win against Discoveries Football Club U-14 Flyers before again hitting five against St. Helens FC U-14’s in the semi-finals.

Elsewhere, their opponents have also been in unbelievable form before reaching the final. Ruston Sports again got off to an eye-catching start with a 27-1 win against Gonerby Youth FC U-13 Yellows. They extended that excellent form with an 8-2 victory on home soil against The Lounge FC U-14’s. They hit another four against Lincoln United Juniors FC U-14 before an entertaining 4-2 victory over Messingham Juniors U-14 Colts. The team were then made to battle to reach the final, with a 3-2 win required over Grantham Town’s U13 side.

A look at the U12s competition shows that goals were also flowing for both sides. Gonerby Youth U12 Yellows earned a slender 2-1 win against Bottesford Town FC U12 LSC in the first round before being awarded a walkover in round two. They then registered a massive win with a 13-0 victory over Clee Community FC U12 Mariners. Gonerby played out another entertaining tie with a 4-2 win over North Lindum Hawks JFC U12 and then squeezed past Deeping Rangers FC U12s Blues 2-1. The team reached the final with another 2-1 win over Crowland Juniors FC U12s.

Bottesford Town FC U12 VW, meanwhile, got their campaign off to a thrilling start with a 9-6 win against Discoveries Football Club U12 GB Sundays before a 12-0 thumping against Forrest Rangers JFC U12s. Their stunning form in front of goal continued with a 9-1 win against Discoveries Football Club U12 Empire Col before hitting 11 against Park Tigers JFC U12s. However, they were made to work hard for their final place as they only narrowly advanced past Discoveries Football Club U11 Vipers Saturday.

From looking at previous results for all four teams, supporters attending the two finals can certainly expect a few goals – but perhaps more importantly, a fantastic showcase of youth football in Lincolnshire.
