From 16 Providers to 34 - The Growth of Wildcats Football in Lincolnshire

We have seen a growth of 16 Weetabix Wildcats providers to 34 in just two seasons here in Lincolnshire.

Due to the ever-increasing appetite for football among young girls in the county, and in thanks to the fabulous work of local volunteers and coaches, we have seen a growth of 16 Weetabix Wildcats providers to 34 in just two seasons here in Lincolnshire.

So, what is Weetabix Wildcats? In short, it’s a fun way for girls 5-11 to get involved with football. Run by FA qualified coaches and volunteers, Weetabix Wildcats is a form of non-competitive football for girls who want to give it a go for the very first time or want to play with other girls their own age. Most importantly, Weetabix Wildcats is all about having loads of fun and meeting new amazing friends.

To illustrate the growth of Wildcats football across Lincolnshire over the last two seasons, we’ve included two mapping documents below which show the progress that has been made…

Steph Powell, Lincolnshire FA Football Development Officer (Women & Girls), said: “We are so proud of the growth in recreational providers for girls coming into the game at ages 5-11 in Lincolnshire. I think Weetabix Wildcats provides the perfect environment for girls to grow in confidence, thrive, have fun and make friends setting them up for a lifelong love of our game. We couldn’t do it without the support of some fantastic clubs and organisations that are supporting our movement and providing the experiences for our young girls and as we look to grow even further over the coming years our grassroots volunteers become ever more important. It is a really exciting time to be in the female game so bring on the next two years!”

Here at Lincolnshire FA we have big aspirations by the end of this strategy to provide an opportunity for every female to participate in the game, whether they are five years old or 75 years old. We’ll also be developing opportunities for those in minority groups, whether it’s playing affiliated or recreational football, football within education, coaches, officials or simply as volunteers; so if you would like further information, please get in touch with Steph on steph.powell@lincolnshirefa.com
